Hot Chocolate 15K/5K virtual race
The Hot Chocolate 15k/5k Minneapolis course highlights the city's biggest attractions. Although the virtual race begins at Boom Island Park at 10 am and lasts until 11 pm Saturday, April 10, you can run on sidewalks, parks paths, or a treadmill. The virtual run consists of a 5k and 15k option, just like the race series. Run (or walk) the distance you pick wherever you want. Nine City of Minneapolis boards and commissions have openings for appointments this spring. The City seeks applicants with a diversity of backgrounds and experiences representing the demographics of Minneapolis to strengthen the work of the City. Applications are open now and will remain open until filled; application review begins April 30.

HeightsNEXT, a non-profit focused on increasing sustainability, is organizing volunteers for an Earth Day Cleanup, Saturday, April 24, at 9 am. Volunteers’ efforts will freshen up local streetscapes and prevent trash from drifting through storm drains into the Mississippi River.

Stop by Beltrami Park any time between 9:30 and noon on Saturday, April 24 to pick up a cleaning supply kit, then hit the neighborhood. The goal of Earth Day Cleanup is to provide a volunteer experience and environmental education to Minneapolis residents and park users. This annual event involves cleaning Minneapolis parks, neighborhoods, watersheds and water bodies. Since the first Earth Day cleanup, more than 140,000 lbs. of garbage have been removed from Minneapolis parks.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and City of Minneapolis annual Minneapolis Earth Day Clean-Up event, Saturday, April 24, 9:30 am-noon, has moved to DIY mode. You can use a trash bag from home or pick up supplies, including bags and gloves, at participating Earth Day sites throughout the city, including Beltrami, Boom Island, Waite, and Windom parks.

Join the Lions for an afternoon of fun, bowling, food, games, and camaraderie. Open to the public, must preregister. Cost is $180 per lane (up to six players) includes shoes and a taco bar lunch. Friends of the Mississippi River will meet June 8 to plant additional plugs of prairie grass and pull garlic mustard at their prairie restoration site on Nicollet Island. All are welcome.
