A-Mill Artist Lofts, 315 Main Street SE, will be open during Art-A-Whirl 2024, May 17-19. Hours are Friday, May 17, 5-10 pm ; Saturday, May 18, 10 am-8 pm; and Sunday, May 19, 10-5 pm. The building will be open on multiple floors with 60 artist vendors conducting demos such as jewelry, ceramics, screen printing, painting and photography. Live music throughout the weekend from Guytano, Jeff James, Elliott Graber, Dylan Boehmer, Adam Marx and Phil Daniels. Food trucks will also be on hand.
The building will also host tours as part of Doors Open Minneapolis, 10 am -5 pm Saturday and Sunday. Visit the lower level museum, power plant and 700-foot tunnel underneath Main Street. Visitors will enter through the main entrance and into the Grand Lobby, enjoy the light curtain and Adam Turman “Night Owl” mural. Then they will descend the staircase into what was once the boiler room but is now an Art Gallery. From there, they descend further into the lower level “Studio Row” which once stored coal but now houses ceramic, photography, and flexible artist spaces. After that they will enter into the museum itself. Only open to the public once or twice a year, they will observe the original foundation walls of the Historic Pillsbury Mill, view down through the glass floor into the 60-foot-deep turbine pits and descend again to view the Historic limestone tunnel that travels underneath Main street toward its inlet across from Aster Café.
