Ars Moriendi: A “spook-tacular” concert about life, death, and life after death
October 30, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Event Navigation
Get into the spirit of Halloween at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1621 University Ave. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 7 pm. Organist Sam Backman, tenor Aaron James, and narrators, Fr. Spencer Howe, Nate Whipple, and Matt Lines will present a program that offers fun, “spook-tacular” thrills and a genuine theological message on life, death, and life after death. This concert embraces Halloween and seeks to bring renewed attention to its origins: A celebration of the triumph of good over evil and life over death. The program will feature works of J.S. Bach, Franz Schubert, John Ireland, Gerard Bunk, Samuel Backman, and Louis Vierne. A reception follows the concert, and a brief reflection on works of visual art will be offered in conjunction. Children are encouraged to show up in costumes if they wish—it is rumored that there may be a candy bowl nearby. Free admission and ample parking. Info: www.ourholycross.org.
