“Blood on the Pavement” at NKB

“Blood on the Pavement” combines poetry, written by Ashley Richardson, with visual art responses. The intention is to spark conversations about verbal and physical violence against Black bodies, from microaggressions to police brutality; as well as violence against trans bodies, women’s bodies, and other intersections of the Black identity. Opening night activities on First Thursday, May 5, 5-9 pm, Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE, third floor gallery (studio 332). A themed writers Open Mic will start at 5 pm, followed by a short talk lead by a noted artist. At 7 pm, a Poetry Reading will feature local Minnesota poets. The show will feature local artists responding to Richardson’s poems: Drew Hammond, Azania Tripp, Briauna Williams, Lyle Ferguson, Sebastian Rivera Cintron, Ariana Carbajal, and Cory Favre, with unique appearances of works by Nikki McComb and Owen Brown. They will provide remarks on May 28, 7 pm.
