Blue roses: New work from John Largaespada

John Largaespada will be displaying his new work Nov. 11-Dec. 11. Opening reception is Friday, Nov. 11, 6 p.m.-10 p.m. at the Rogue Buddha Gallery, 357 13th Ave. NE. Largaespada’s practice is concerned with exploring the computer’s ability to push photography toward a more pure image-making medium reminiscent of painting. Digital manipulation allows him to move from a literal, photographic presentation to imagery that more accurately captures the true emotion of a scene. In the end, the environments portrayed in his work are imagined, not wholly found or staged. Largaespada has exhibited locally and nationally. He has received two Jerome Foundation grants and a Minnesota State Arts Board grant, his work is also in the permanent collection of the New Museum of Contemporary Art, NYC.
