‘Bodies of Resistance’

“Bodies of Resistance”, a collaborative art show celebrating women’s stories and experiences of resistance through photography, paint and printed word, opens with a reception Friday, Sept. 3, 7 -10 pm at ArtSpace Jackson Flats, 901 18 ½ Ave NE. The exhibit combines photographer Suzanne Shaff’s black-and-white nude portraits of nine women in self-defined poses of resistance or power, painter John Stumme’s life-size renditions of her photos and written narratives of each woman’s personal story by writers Judith Jopp and Maureen McMullen. It’s an exploration of complex and nuanced stories of female resistance, as varied and individualistic as the women who stepped forward to participate. Runs weekends through Sept. 19, noon-4 pm.
