CH Library Grand Opening June 25 Noon

The Grand Opening for the new Columbia Heights Library is planned for Saturday, June 25, noon to 4 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 12:30. Music, games for kids, cake, tours of the new space, and lots of fun details are planned.

Hours will be very similar to the current building: Mondays through Wednesdays 9 a.m. -8 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 9 a.m. -5 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Sundays closed. The address is 3939 Central Ave and the main phone number will remain 763-706-3690.

The new library will have a reading area with fireplace; a colorful and nurturing children’s play/reading nook; self check kiosks using RFID technology; a drive-up book drop; three small study rooms and a small meeting room; a community meeting room for 80; a history room; a craft room. There will be energy efficient LED lighting throughout; efficient heating and air conditioning delivered at person-level through floor vents; dedicated young adult area; 24 public computers; Wi-Fi throughout the building.

Outside, there will be lots more parking for cars and bikes; environmentally responsible storm water management features funded by the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization.

Staff remain the same and they’ve planned lots of fun programs for kids and teens for the rest of the summer.
