Yoga, 5 classes: Attend this class with Zoom. Explore this ancient exercise system that strengthens the body while calming and focusing the mind. Learn basic exercises for your daily life to strengthen and tone the body. Classes include classic Hatha or stretching, breathing practices, and guided relaxation/meditation. Dress in comfortable clothes and use a mat, towel or rug for floor work. Tuesdays, June 22 & 29, 5:30-6:30 pm, $45.
Outdoor Zumba, 4 classes: Step into Happy with Zumba. They take the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Join them for these in-person classes in the grassy area behind Murzyn Hall, 530 Mill St. NE, Columbia Heights. Saturdays. June, 19 & 26, 9:30-10:30 am, $36.
Mississippi Watershed Protection: Habitat at Home – Planting for Pollinators and Starting Small: Join Adam Flett from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization via Zoom to learn about how small changes to your yard or garden can provide much-needed habitat for pollinating species like Monarch butterflies. These changes can also improve water quality and create a unique landscaping feature. Wednesday, June 16, 6:30-8 pm, free.
Defensive Driving Refresher Class: If you have taken a state-approved eight-hour Defensive Driving Course (55+) in the past, now you can renew your 10% three-year car insurance discount by taking this state-approved four-hour refresher course. There’s no driving and no test. You will receive a certificate of completion to provide to your insurance company. Senior discount already applied. Wednesday, June 23, 5:30-9:30 pm, $30, Zoom.
Medicare 101: This presentation reviews what’s covered by Parts A, B, C and D of Medicare, as well as Medicare supplement options available. The enrollment process and options for enrollment in Medicare will be discussed along with the personal costs of the program. They will address the “donut hole” and eligibility for extra help with prescription drug costs. Changes to Medicare will be reviewed as well as examples of Medicare fraud. They will introduce the services of the Senior LinkAge Line® that includes assistance making personal comparisons using the Medicare.gov website and the Health Care Choices booklet, published by the Minnesota Board on Aging.
