Minnesota from the Road: Storyteller Doug Ohman: Sat., Oct. 1, 11 am: “Lake Superior’s Arrowhead & Iron Range Tour;” Sat., Nov. 5, 11 am: “Heartland Lakes Tour.” Back by popular demand! Doug Ohman is a true-blue Minnesota history enthusiast, and he can’t help but spread the word wherever he goes. A historian, photographer and storyteller all rolled into one, Doug has published 14 books about Minnesota. Registration encouraged.
Mental Health Awareness Workshop: Mon., Oct. 10, 5:30 pm. Mental illnesses are more common than diabetes, yet there is still a struggle with talking about them compared a physical illness. During this session participants will learn how to better recognize stigma and gain tips for talking with others about mental illness. This presentation is in partnership with the Mental Wellness Campaign for Anoka County (MWCAC.org) and the Northwest Metro Roundtable. Registration encouraged.

Learn best practices for creating a résumé that meets the specific requirements of a position, find out what type of résumé may be best for you, and identify common mistakes to avoid. Registration required.
Library Book Club: Wed., Oct. 19, 10 am: “The Mothers” by Brit Bennett
Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead Celebration: Wed., Oct. 19, 5:30 pm. Celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with the Columbia Heights Library and the HeightsNEXT community group. Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that honors family and friends who have passed on. Paint sugar skulls, create an ofrenda, and learn more about the Day of the Dead celebration. Registration required.
Needle-Felted Pumpkins: Mon., Oct. 24, 5:30 pm. Decorate your shelf, mantle, or table with a festive needle felted pumpkin that will last for years. Funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Space is limited and registration is required.
Consult with the Law Librarian: Thurs., Oct. 27, 5-7 pm. Meet with the Anoka County Law Library Director to answer legal reference questions, locate forms, and get referral services, where possible.
Conversation Circle: Mondays, 5:30 pm and Thursdays, 2 pm. A casual gathering of adult English-language learners who meet at the library to practice their speaking skills in a group setting.
Tiny Art Show: Showcase your artistic talents in the library’s Tiny Art Show. Register to receive a mini art kit (a 3×3 inch canvas, paint, and a paintbrush). Feel free to use your own materials, too—just keep it tiny. Submit your creation by Oct. 31. The Tiny Art Show will be on exhibit in the library’s glass display case throughout November-December. For participants ages 13+. Registration required.
