Tiny Art Show: Showcase your artistic talents in the library’s first Tiny Art Show. Register to receive a mini art kit (a 3×3 inch canvas, paint, and a paintbrush). Submit your creation by Oct. 30. The Tiny Art Show will be on exhibit in the library’s glass display case for the month of November. For participants ages 13+. Registration required.
Book Club: “The Great Alone” by Kristin Hannah, Wednesday, Oct. 20, 10 am; “The Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennett, Wednesday, Nov. 17, 10 am.
Poems in the Park: Explore a city park and ponder classic poems, placed along the walking path. Oct. 15: Sullivan Park, 10 am-4 pm; Nov. 19: LaBelle Park, 10 am-4 pm
Tree Identification Workshop: Presented by Liam Genter, Columbia Heights’ Urban Forestry Specialist. Learn about some of the common tree species found in Columbia Heights and how to tell them apart. Registration required. Monday, Oct. 11, 5:30 pm.
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead): Celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with the Columbia Heights Library and the HeightsNEXT community group. Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that honors family and friends who have passed on. Space is limited and registration is required. Register online or call 763-706-3690. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1-2:30 pm.
Watercolor Lemon Branch: Add a pop of color to your kitchen or your favorite room with a hand-painted watercolor lemon branch. This program is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Registration is required. Monday, Oct. 18, 5:30 pm.
Art of Indigo Dye: The process of dyeing with indigo is magical. As you dip fabric in the dye vat and pull it out, the color changes from yellow to blue in front of your eyes as it oxidizes in the air. This program is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Registration is required. Monday, Nov. 1, 5:30 pm.
Tapestry Weaving (online program): Learn the basics of tapestry weaving to create a modern-looking wall hanging. Pick your favorite colors and textures to make a one-of-a-kind piece of art! Participants will need to pick up a materials kit the week prior to the online program. This program is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. This program will be presented via Zoom. Participants will need a web-enabled device. Registration is required. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 6 pm.
