Daycare Storytime: Wednesdays, 10:30 am, Oct. 6, Nov. 3, & Dec. 1. Talk, sing, read, write, and play at this storytime designed for daycare groups. Registration required.
Baby Read, Baby Grow: Thursdays, 10:30-11 am. (For infants ages birth-24 months and their parents or caregivers) Gather at the library for read-aloud stories, sing-a-longs, activities and lots of fun. Registration required. “Pods” should not exceed 5 total people.
Story Strolls: Oct. 20-21, Huset Park. The Library has teamed up with Recreation to bring stories outdoors this fall. Large story pages will be placed throughout the featured parks. Gather your family to explore city parks, and read a story together as you walk along the park trails.
Family Discovery: Pollinate MN*: Saturdays, Oct. 9 & 23, 11-12 pm. Visit parks throughout the city and learn about pollinators and their habitats while participating in hands-on activities. Stay tuned for more information. For families. Registration required.
Exploring West Africa: Friday, Oct. 22, 2-4 pm. Ghana Mbaye takes you on a whirlwind tour of West Africa through drumming, dance, and storytelling. Listen to stories about Anansi the Spider, the great trickster. Then learn African drumming and dance patterns. Registration required.
Print and Repeat Bags: Friday, Nov. 12, 1-2:30 pm. Create a block (like a stamp) and print with it to create a repeat pattern on a drawstring bag. Ages 7-12. Registration required. This program will be presented virtually via Zoom. Registrants will need to pick up their kits at Columbia Heights Public Library before the program starts. You will receive an email with information on kit pick-up and a link for the virtual meeting after registration.
Coding Club*: Tuesdays, Oct. 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 4-5:30 pm. Code Club is a place for youth to learn code while doing projects and challenges like making games, creating apps, robotics, building websites and more. Registration Required. For grades 5 and up.
Teen Service Day*: Saturday, Nov. 6, 10 am-12 pm. Help prepare the youth spaces for winter by creating decorations, shelf reading and more at the library all while earning community service hours for school and clubs. Registration required. For grades 6 and up.
Zombie FX: Thursday, Oct. 21, 3-5 pm Whether you want to be a cordyceps mutated Infected or a T-virus zombie in Raccoon City, let the makeup experts from Lyric Arts teach you how to look and act like a zombie. After all, when the zombie apocalypse arrives, it’ll help to blend in. For grades 5 and up. Registration required.
Tiny Art Show, October-November: Showcase your artistic talents in the library’s first Tiny Art Show. Register to receive a mini art kit (a 3×3-inch canvas, easel, paint, and paintbrush). Submit your creation by Oct. 30. The Tiny Art Show will be on display in the library’s glass display case for the month of November. For participants ages 13+. Registration required.
