Exploring Home, Exile and What We Carry: Writing Memoirs: How can writing help you reclaim life, forge new languages and build a brighter future after experiencing exile or separation from one’s home? How can self-awareness expand our writing and self in increasingly stressful sociopolitical contexts? In this workshop, we will answer these questions and examine the ordinary events of our lives – our location, language, movements, dreams, memories, desires and more – and purposefully use writing as a tool to resist being a passive onlooker in our life and the world. Led by Beaudelaine Pierre. Collaborator: More Than a Single Story. Funded by Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Online event. Registration required. Friday, Dec. 3, 6-8 pm.
Queer Voices Writing Circles: Join Queer Voices curators Sherrie Fernandez-Williams and Lisa Marie Brimmer as they facilitate writing circles: collective space for community building, sharing, knowledge, and sharing work. This space is not about critique, but about the admiration of the sentences and more generative moments in the writing process. Come with your writing tools and something yummy to drink or eat. Spend two hours grounding in the archive, responding to writing prompts, and sharing back in community. This is a drop-in writing group. Online event. Link available on library website.
