The University of Minnesota’s Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication presents Documenting a Reckoning: The Murder of George Floyd, Thursday, March 17-Sunday, June 5 at the Mill City Museum, 704 S. 2nd Street. The murder of George Floyd at the knee of a police officer brought demonstrations and protests that swept the Twin Cities – and the world – at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. It brought people to the streets who had never before protested, and inspired photojournalists and other photographers to create images with lasting impact. From May 25, 2020, to the culmination of the Chauvin trial with a guilty verdict on April 20, 2021, this story was documented by diverse professional, community and student photographers. This exhibit brings 54 of those images together to help create a broader sense of the influence of these events on our lives. Museum hours are 10 am-4 pm Thursdays and Fridays; 10 am-5 pm Saturdays and Sundays. Get museum admission tickets online at mnhs.org. Minnesota Historical Society members get in free.
