Film screening and panel discussion on Women’s Equality Day

On Women’s Equality Day, Friday, Aug. 26, there will be a free screening of the new, 90-minute film “Equal Means Equal,” at 6 p.m., at St. Anthony Main Theatre, 115 Main St. SE, followed by a panel discussion. Panelists will discuss the status of women in America today and why the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is needed in the state and national constitutions.
Panelists include Rep. Keith Ellison, Sen. Sandy Pappas, who is President of the Minnesota Senate, Rep. Rena Moran, who is the chief author of the Equal Rights Amendment bill in the Minnesota House, Monica Hurtado, from Voices for Racial Justice, and Trista Matascastillo, from the Women Veterans Initiative. Former Rep. Betty Folliard, founder of ERA Minnesota and executive producer of a weekly radio show called “A Woman’s Place,” will moderate. Donations will be accepted for the New Americans Alliance for Development and for efforts to pass the Equal Rights Amendment.
