Art to Change the World will stage a four-day exhibit focusing on social justice, Thursday Nov. 4, 5-9 pm; Friday, Nov. 5, 5-9 pm; Saturday, Nov. 6, noon–8 pm; Sunday, Nov. 7, noon–4 pm. When Texas passed the law denying the marginalized their reproductive freedom (the wealthy can travel across state lines), Natalie McGuire felt compelled to take action. She wrote to the curator of the Arcadia Art Show, Tyler, Tex., saying respectfully, she could not send her art into a state which would support such a trampling of “the right to choose.” Much to her amazement, the curator, Dace Kidd, responded that she understood and asked if she could install her statement on a black background, framed, in the place her work would have hung. McGuire formed a group with social practice artists Cory Favre and Nina Robinson to create the Art To Change the World committee called #frameyourrights. Their first exhibition will feature social practice artists including Ari Carbajal, Rebecca David, Cory Favre and Natalie McGuire. The exhibit is at the Solar Arts Building, 711 15th Ave. NE. 30% of all sales from this exhibit will be donated to The Lilith Fund which supports the right of all Texans to make their own reproductive choices, regardless of income: https://www.lilithfund.org/donate.
