Event Navigation
Mill City Museum, 704 Second St. S., will host “Fuji-Ya and Riverfront Revival,” a free presentation about how a riverside dining spot transformed the City of Minneapolis, Thursday, Jan. 24, 7-8 pm.
After a century of milling, Minneapolis had turned its back on the central riverfront until Reiko Weston, a Japanese immigrant, opened her restaurant, Fuji-Ya, in a burned-out flour mill, which served as a catalyst for a wave of revitalization in the area.
The presentation is based on Kimmy Tanaka and Jonathan Moore’s Minnesota History magazine article, “Fuji-Ya, Second to None: Reiko Weston’s Role in Reconnecting Minneapolis and the Mississippi River.” Info: 612-341-7555, millcitymuseum.org.
