Event Navigation
Pillsbury United Communities (PUC), in partnership with the City of Minneapolis, is collaborating to host a gun buyback Saturday, Aug. 27, for guns to be used in a new campaign called “Art Is My Weapon: a Minnesota Installation of Guns in the Hands of Artists.”
Residents can anonymously turn in firearms, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., at Station 14, 2002 Lowry Ave. N., and Station 17, 330 38th St. E., and will receive a $15 to $300 Visa gift card, depending on the type of firearm. The weapons will be decommissioned and given to local artists to create statements about the impact of gun violence in the community. The project builds on the momentum of the national Guns in the Hands of Artists exhibit that PUC recently presented in the Twin Cities. A call for artists will be posted soon at www.ArtIsMyWeapon.com. PUC is accepting monetary donations from the public to help fund the buyback at www.puc-mn.org/art-my-weapon. The art eventually will be for sale, and some of the pieces will be displayed throughout the community.
