Juneteenth Minnesota 2022: West Broadway Block Party
June 19, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Event Navigation
This event focuses on Black economic development, specifically the creation and sustainability of Black Owned Businesses in Minnesota and solving socio-economic problems such as police brutality, mental illness, and the decline of home and business ownership. The main objective is to engage with community members to discuss and find solutions to issues that directly impact Black families and their community while celebrating an historic moment in African American history. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which “freed” African Americans from slavery. It wasn’t until two and a half years later in 1865 that General Gordon Granger marched through the city of Galveston, Texas, and informed the enslaved Africans of their freedom. The celebration on Sunday, June 19, 10 am-6 pm, will occupy sections of West Broadway Avenue, from Bryant to Emerson Avenues North. Free.
