Family Storytime: Mondays, March 9-April 15, 10:30-11 am. Share books, songs, and rhymes with your children at this storytime designed to promote school readiness in 2- to 5-year olds. Librarians, caregivers, and children sing, talk, read, write and play together to build early literacy skills. Siblings are also welcome.
Baby Read, Baby Grow: Thursdays, March 9-April 15, 10:30-11 am. For infants ages birth to 24 months and their parents or caregivers. Read-aloud stories, sing-a-longs, activities and lots of fun. Baby Read, Baby Grow is free and is part of the early literacy collaboration between the library and the Columbia Heights School District’s Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE).
The Land Before Time: Tuesday, March 22, 2-3:30 pm. In this adventurous class, kids will travel back in time to visit dinosaurs and other extinct creatures. Create dinosaur fossils with model magic, sketch out and name your own dinosaur discoveries, and even make a travel journal to document your findings and what you see as you wander the Jurassic. This program is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Registration required.
Teen Programs
String Art: Wednesday, March 23, 2-4 pm. Using small nails, colorful yarn, and embroidery thread, participants will create images and shapes by “stringing.” Participants will each receive a small base that they will design an interesting image on, then add nails to the outer lines of the designs and “string” yarn or embroidery thread between the nails in a crisscross fashion. Colorful designs will come to life with the zig-zagging rainbow threads. This program is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Registration required.
Volunteering: Learn more about the library, help your community, meet new people and earn community service hours for school. For teens ages 13 and older who are self-motivated, reliable, and want to have fun. Applications are available at the library.
