Minneapolis Institute of Art commissions pop-up ice sculptures in parks
The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) is bringing ice sculptures to parks across Minneapolis. Organized by Mia, in partnership with the Minneapolis Park Board, five visitor favorite artworks from Mia’s collection will be interpreted in ice by Chris Swarbrick of Ice Occasions. This is an opportunity for art lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to experience a bit of Mia’s collection for free, without stepping inside the museum. The ice sculptures will be on view starting Friday, Feb. 19 and remain on view through Sunday, Feb. 28, or as long as weather allows. Swarbrick is carving the sculptures in his studio before transporting them to the five locations. Featured artworks and locations: “Veiled Lady,” at Longfellow Park, “Olive Trees,” at Washburn-Fair Oaks Park, “Your Dog,” at Bde Mka Ska, “Celestial Horse,” at North Commons Park, “Aphrodisiac Telephone,” at Boom Island Park. No tickets or reservations are required. Minneapolis parks are open 6 am to midnight daily. More information and specific locations at artsmia.org/artinice.
