Nordeast Grind, a day of bike racing

The Nordeast Grind, a new bike racing event patterned after the Big Waters Classic’s Southside Sprint (which will happen the day after) is coming to the 29th and Johnson Street area on July 23. Several different categories of bike races will take place starting at 8 a.m. and wrapping up around 4 p.m.
The Kramarczuk’s (cat 5) Citizen Classic race will be held at 8:45 and Fair State Brewing is sponsoring the Men Masters (brewmasters sprint) at 11:30 a.m. A special kids race will be held at 2:30 p.m.
The course is thee-quarter miles; spectators can watch along Johnson Street, 29th, 28th, or Lincoln Streets NE. Vendors will set up in the merchants parking lot between 28th and 29th on the west side of the street (see below for business info). For more on the races, see bigwatersclassic.com.
Business info during Nordeast Grind Saturday, July 23
The 29th and Johnson Street business area will be accessible by walking in from side streets starting 7 a.m. (setup) and during the races on Saturday, July 23, 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Some service businesses will be closed: Northeast Tailor Shop, Massage & Healing by Mary and Friends, Northeaster, and Farmers Insurance say “Closed, enjoy the races!”
Johnson Food Mart and Petscape (parking lot accessible from the north end) will be open regular hours. A Bag Lady will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
In discussions prior to the event’s scheduling, it was presumed that the other food and retail businesses would be open for spectators and regular customers alike.
