Business Consultations with City of Minneapolis: A representative from the City of Minneapolis will meet with business owners and entrepreneurs to share resources (financing, city regulations, and business technical assistance) and assist those who want to start, maintain, or expand a business in the City of Minneapolis. No appointment necessary. In English and Spanish. Collaborator: City of Minneapolis Small Business Team. 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, 1:30-4:30 pm.
Creative Writing Workshop: A 5-week creative writing workshop for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This class is open to anyone who uses words in any way. This program allows students to express themselves through their own words and provide an opportunity for others to read creative works from their unique perspective. Traditional reading and writing ability is not required.! Students will also have the opportunity to publish and share their work at the end of the session. Collaborator: Cow Tipping Press. Virtual Citizenship Workshop: Drop-in to online study sessions to practice for your citizenship interview. Work in small groups or individually with a volunteer from Literacy Minnesota. Study English vocabulary, reading, writing, and civics. Classes are held every Monday and Tuesday, 11 am-12:30 pm, through September 6. Exceptions: Mondays, July 4, September 5. Online event. You’ll understand what each database covers, where they fit in your business-building effort and your options to use these powerful resources. Criminal Expungement Information Session: Expungement is the process of going to court to ask a judge to seal a court record. People request an expungement when they have been denied a job, housing, or a professional license because of a criminal incident that shows up on a background check. Attend the virtual informational session via Microsoft Teams to learn more about the expungement process and have general questions answered by attorneys. The session is free, but registration is required. Expungement court forms will be provided to all registrants. Lights, Camera, Action: Talkback: Journey Productions will present a talkback event centered around the theatric process of company artists. It will explore the spectacular artistic process of dance, song and spoken word. The talkback will address themes of identity as well as the journey one must take to find their voice and place in a society as a young artist. This shared space is to help stitch together the African American diaspora of theatric history by acknowledging those who paved the way for today’s community of young, gifted artists. People of Nepal: Highlights on Tamang Culture: Nepal is inhabited by 100 caste/ethnic groups and innumerable cultures. Learn about interesting, intertwined cultures among various caste/ethnic groups, with a focus on Tamang rituals, clothing, food and music. Tamang people live in the geographical areas surrounding Kathmandu Valley, the capital city of Nepal. Sponsor: Friends of the Hennepin County Library. Won’t Take Nothing for My Journey Now: Wisdom Young will examine the role of Black women in freedom struggles, share an original related poem, and speak on the ways Black women have talked about freedom. Workshop participants will read, reflect and discuss the work of Black women and be prompted to write about where they find freedom and what freedom means to them. Event will have ASL interpretation.
