Potekglass offers open torch and open kiln sessions as well as three beginner classes in June, 2505 NE Howard St. Not certified? Sign-up for a Try-iT! Class. Open Torch Session, Free Glass Friday: Fridays, June 4, 11, 18 and July 2, 11 am-3 pm each day. Open torch session includes 4 hours on their equipment with a set of student tools and free glass. The glass provided for this session is Italian soft glass, which has a COE (Coefficient of Expansion) of 104. COE measures of the rate at which glass will expand and contract as it is heated or cooled. A certification is needed to participate. $35 non-members, $25 members.
Kiln, Tessellations: Saturday, June 5, 10 am-1 pm. This class teaches the principles of tessellation and translates them to the luminous art that is glass. This is a beginner session intended to introduce a glass-working approach. You will learn basic techniques specific to that approach with hands-on practice time to get comfortable working with glass and open your eyes to the creative potential of glass. $95 non-members, $69 members.
Open Torch: Saturday, June 12, 1:30-5:30 pm. 4 hours on their equipment with a set of student tools. Certification needed to participate. $35 non-members, $25 members.
Open Kiln: Saturday, June 12, 1:30-5:30 pm. 4 hours on their equipment with a set of student tools, table workspace and quarter shelf portion of 24″ round kiln to fire your projects. Certification needed to participate. $35 non-members, $25 members.
Italian Soft Glass Try-iT!: Sunday, June 13, 10 am-1 pm. Discover the ease of molding and shaping colorful Italian soft glass Effetre when it’s hot. You will learn to gather molten glass and apply on a mandrel to make beads on the torch. Then explore surface decoration techniques to enhance beads. Expect to make between 6 and 12 beads depending on your work style. $95 non-members, $69 members.
Basics from Boron Try-iT!: Friday, June 18, 6-9 pm. Discover the sculptural potential of durable Borosilicate, named for the element boron, which is added as a flux to create an American hard glass. This try-it will explore torchwork basics and each skill taught will culminate in a project after hands-on practice. You will learn to gather molten glass to create a small paperweight, smash and twirl and gather into an icicle ornament and experiment with glassblowing to create a small figure. $95 non-members, $69 members.
