Spark-Y: “The Art of Youth Empowerment”

Visit Spark-Y during Art-A-Whirl and explore the intersections of art, sustainability and entrepreneurship with an open house – and spring plant sale – featuring youth made art. Purchase hanging floral baskets and Victory Garden kits – variety seed packets that include tomato, cucumber, marigold, cilantro, spring onion and jalapeno – to support Spark–Y’s many activities, $40 each. Tour the  Urban Agriculture Lab, home to a two-ton timber-frame microgreen system, designed and built as an internship project in 2018 in partnership with Casket Arts neighbor and resident timber-frame expert, Clark Bremer. Discover how Spark–Y integrates design thinking into its sustainable projects, such as planter benches, compost bins and water cisterns in the sculpture garden of Casket Arts. Staff and students will feature some “maker” activities using the woodcutter and the 3D printer. Friday, May 17, 5-10 pm; Saturday, May 18, 12-8 pm; Sunday, May 19, 12-5 pm.
