Stay cool at pools and beaches
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has nearly 100 places where people can stay cool during summer heat waves and offers extended hours in extreme heat.
Lifeguards are on duty noon-7 p.m. at eight beach locations. If the temperature is above 85 degrees at 6 pm, lifeguards remain on duty until 8 p.m. For beach locations and lifeguard hours, visit www.minneapolisparks.org/beaches.
Jim Lupient Water Park, 1520 Johnson St. NE, offers water play with water features, shade structures, and refreshments. The hours are Monday-Friday, 11 a.m-7 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 1 p.m.-7 p.m. If the temperature is above 85 degrees at 6 p.m., water parks remain open until 8 p.m.
There are more than 60 wading pools in Minneapolis parks, with styles ranging from classic circular pools to others with spray features and waterfalls. Wading pools are open daily and are free to use. There are no lifeguards on duty. Wading pools are open until 9 p.m. or until 10 p.m. if the temperature is above 85 degrees at 6 p.m. For a complete listing of wading pools and their status, visit www.minneapolisparks.org/aquatics.
