Casket Cinema spins into Art-A-Whirl 2023 with a special screening on Saturday, May 20, 8 pm, of the film, “The Co-op Wars.” Directed by Minneapolis documentarian Deacon Warner and producer Erik Esse, this film tells the little-known story of the 1970s food wars in Minneapolis, a conflict so fierce that cars were bombed, workers assaulted and co-ops on the West bank occupied by Maoist activists. The film is narrated by the legendary Peter Coyote, a vet of many Ken Burns films, and features many of the infamous participants of the day. Special guests will be director Deacon Warner and others; they will converse with Casket Cinema co-founder Mark Wojahn after the screening. Saturday, May 20, doors at 7:30 pm, film at 8 pm. Casket Arts Building, 681 17th Ave. NE, #145, in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. Donation of $10-15 will go to the filmmakers.
