Young Punks: Art of the Patch: Thursday, June 16, 3-5 pm. The patch jacket is a fashion statement, a work of art, and a declaration of identity. Cultivate your own patch collection by creating several patches using ink, paint, and embroidery techniques. Learn basic design, composition, drawing, and sewing skills in this hands-on, highly personalized class. Registration required. Ages 13+
Needle Felted Toadstools: Thursday, June 30, 3-4:30 pm. Learn how to use a felting needle to form loose wool roving into an adorable mushroom. When it’s complete, add a wood base and a little moss to make the scene come to life. Registration required. Ages 10+
Going Big with Coil Building: Wednesday, July 13, 1-3 pm. Pinch pots are great and slabs are fun, but do you ever want to take your hand building to the next level? Come learn the art of coil building and use this ancient technique to construct a large vase. The teaching artist will discuss how coil building has been used around the world, demonstrate how to roll consistent coils, how to join them securely, and how to shape the finished vessel. Use slip and sgraffito techniques to decorate and perhaps add a handle or two. Finished projects will be clear glazed by Artistry before they are returned to students so they will be waterproof and perfect to hold a bouquet. Registration required. Ages 13+
Custom Screen Printing: Thursdays, July 14, 21, 28, Aug. 4, 3-4:30 pm. Custom design and handprint t-shirts while learning the basics of screen printing at the library. Youth will be introduced to making basic hand-drawn stencils that can be transferred to a printing screen, and then printed on paper or cloth. Explore the t-shirt as wearable art with the power to convey messages through slogans and unique imagery. Registration required. Ages 13+
