Appropriation from the Native perspective
Native artists Ashley Fairbanks (White Earth Anishinaabe), Marlena Myles (Spirit Lake Dakota/Mohegan) and Lumhe Micco Sampson (Seneca/Creek) will lead a panel discussion Saturday, Nov. 19, 6:30 pm at the Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE, Studio 309. They will discuss cultural appropriation from the Native American perspective. Refreshments provided by the Sioux Chef. Presented by the Minnesota Native Artists Alliance and Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association.

Noble Truth Artist Talk: Layl McDill
Step into the wonderland of Layl McDill’s studio in the Flux Arts Building. She shares her space with her husband Josh Blanc as part of Clay Squared to Infinity. Layl creates polymer clay sculptures that focus on wonderment and storytelling and Josh makes handmade tiles. She will give a tour of both her studio and her husband’s and tell a story. “Currents”
"Currents" by sculptor Cameron Zebrun opens Jan. 14 at the Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE, Studio 395. Zebrun’s sculptures incorporate sleek lines, elegant curves and seductive colors derived from nature. Cartography, geography and topography also play important roles in his work. The results are elegant sculptures formed from thin layers of wood on which he paints and collage abstractions based on his observations of nature, most lately in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Rogue Buddha Gallery, 357 13th Ave. NE. The Eldrich exhibition is the culmination of collaborative paintings by Adam Marx, Jonny Kelson and Matt Franzen. Wednesday night meetings took place at one of their studios, sometimes chosen randomly, other times for specific reasons. The paintings were often secondary to the camaraderie that developed. David Goldes will launch his new book, "Unpredictable Drawings," 5 pm Friday, March 3 at Dreamsong, 1237 4th Street NE.
