St. Anthony Falls Lab public tour
Are you interested in cutting-edge fluid mechanics research and how that can impact our understanding of the environment? Consider visiting the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory. The annual Hart Lake car show is set for July 29, noon-3 pm, at 3839 Hart Blvd. No cost to display your car. A '50s and '60s band, Lucky Lizzy and the Boys, will perform. The Lost Gateway District of Minneapolis walking tour
Sunday, August 6, 10-11:30 am. During the early 20th century, the Gateway District (or Lower Loop) was the largest Skid Row in the Upper Midwest. Flophouses, missions and bars mixed with a variety of other businesses that needed cheap rents and a central location. SACA community picnic
Community members are invited to attend a community picnic at the new home of Southern Anoka Community Assistance (SACA Food Shelf), hosted in partnership with Northeast Bank. SACA Food Shelf has served the communities of Columbia Heights, Hilltop, Fridley, Spring Lake Park and Northeast Minneapolis for almost 50 years, distributing an average of 58,000 lbs. of food per month. Tour the Zen Center, learn about their programs, meet guiding teachers, enjoy refreshments and attend a short introductory presentation at 2 pm. Meet your volunteers and learn how current recycling practices enhance our communities and protect our environment. Refreshments will be served while supplies last. Remember to bring your soft plastics for recycling into benches (anything stretchable); cardboard, newspapers and periodicals; scrap metals; fluorescent light bulbs; and more.
