Heights needs firefighters
Columbia Heights Fire Department is looking for on-call firefighters. They will hold a recruitment open house on April 5 at 6 pm at the fire station, 825 41st Avenue NE. Applicants must be 18 or older, live within or near Columbia Heights and have a valid driver's license. On-call firefighters answer roughly 30% of calls. A panel of experts will take a look at the grant writing process and discuss how BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and Native artists can successfully navigate the application process. The Above the Falls Community Advisory Committee (AFCAC), an organization made up of community representatives from neighborhoods, businesses, and environmental organizations, will meet Tuesday, May 4, 7-9 pm. For the one-year anniversary of George Floyd's death, the League of Women Voters ABC will discuss a series of articles and a podcast about his life experience as relayed by friends and family.
