CP Holiday Train returns, benefits ESNS
The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will roll through Northeast Tuesday, Dec. 13, making a stop at Lions Park on 37th Avenue between 37th Avenue & Stinson Blvd. at 8 pm. Canadian entertainers Kelly Prescott and Alan Doyle will put on a show from 8:15-8:45. Holiday Train shows are free to attend. Columbia Heights' third annual SnowBlast will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, 4-7 pm. The event will take place at the divide between Huset Park West and Huset Park East and will feature an open skating rink, free popcorn, a s’mores station, fire pits, food sales, beer sales, live music, a heated tent, free hot beverages, light decorations and mini pony rides.

Welcome back the herons
Great blue herons return to their rookery on the Mississippi River toward the end of March. Join Ranger Will at Marshall Terrace Park, 2740 Marshall St. NE, Saturday, March 18, 11 am-1 pm. Watch the herons rebuild nests and do a little flirting. You may see the resident peregrine falcons fly over, as well as migrating ducks such buffleheads and goldeneye. Join Southern Anoka Community Assistance (SACA) at their 11th annual "Hops for Hunger" fundraiser Friday, March 24, 6-9 pm at Quincy Hall, 1325 Quincy St. NE. Earth Day 5K Bee Run/Walk/River Clean Up
The Great River Coalition will hold its 8th annual Earth Day 5K Bee Run/Walk/River Cleanup at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis on Saturday, April 22, 9 am-12 pm. The event features a family- and dog-friendly fun run/walk, river cleanup and Earth Day festivities to protect pollinators and their habitat. The Minnesota Sinfonia under the direction of Jay Fishman will present a free concert Saturday, April 22, 2 pm, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1621 University Ave. NE. The concert will feature Gao Hong, who will perform Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" with improvised variations on the Chinese pipa, a stringed instrument. Also on the program is Beethoven's Second Symphony and a work by South American composer José Nuñez Garcia. Families with children are encouraged to attend.

Father Hennepin Park celebration
The re-do of Father Hennepin Park is finished, and the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board plans to celebrate with a concert on Tuesday, July 11, 6:45 pm.
