SACA’s free produce distributions
Southern Anoka Community Assistance will distribute free produce in partnership with Second Harvest Heartland on the second and fourth Saturday of the month, July-September, 8:30-11 am (or while supplies last). Distribution takes place in the SACA parking lot at 627 38th Ave. NE. SACA Food Shelf distributes up to 10,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables at each event. SACA Thrift Store will host its first-ever fashion show, showcasing wedding, work wear, school fashion and Halloween outfits from the store. Models are volunteers and friends of SACA, including Columbia Heights Mayor Amáda Márquez Simula. Purse Bingo will also be part of the event, where attendees can play for just $1 per card for a chance to win a purse. HeightsNEXT fall cleanup
Gather at the Columbia Heights Public Library at 9 am Saturday, Oct. 12, to get safety vests, garbage bags and street assignments. Park assignments are made for families with young children who participate. Each group goes to their area and safely picks up trash from the sidewalks and vegetation along the sidewalks (or park). Help needed at First Responders’ holiday buffet
Dec. 24 marks the 41st anniversary of the Second Precinct Advisory Council’s (2-PAC) holiday buffet for Minneapolis first responders. Days for Girls Sew-a-thon
The Minneapolis City of Lakes Rotary Club will host a Days for Girls Sew-a-thon at Northeast United Methodist Church, 2510 Cleveland St. NE, Saturday, Feb. 1, 9-11 am. Potters create handcrafted bowls; Northeast restaurants provide soup/bread; you donate what you can and keep your bowl as a reminder of hunger in the community; proceeds go to local food shelves.
