Pulling invasive plants
Volunteers are needed for a final (for this year) “invasive plant pull” Saturday, Oct. 15, 10 am-noon along the Sheridan Memorial Park at 13th Avenue and the Mississippi. Sponsored by Sheridan Neighborhood Organization and the Northeaster. People who run or walk by the river, will eventually benefit from a better view and more pollinators. The Columbia Heights Police Department will host a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Monday, Oct. 24, 10 am-4 pm. Blood will be collected in the fire bays at the Columbia Heights Public Safety Bldg, 825 41st Ave NE. Deliver Meals on Wheels
The labor crisis has led to a declining volunteer workforce. How much of a decline? One-third of the Area Agencies on Aging lost at least 50% of their volunteers since 2019. Relying on volunteers helps us serve older adults low- to no-cost meals and helps them remain in their own homes longer. Grocery shop for seniors
Grocery shop for seniors through Help At Your Door. Start your day off right and get some exercise while helping older adults meet their grocery needs. As a volunteer shopper you will work with a team of volunteers to fill orders at the grocery store for about 3 hours once a week or twice per month. Volunteers do not pay for groceries. HeightsNEXT has organized a spring cleanup on Central Ave. Volunteers meet Saturday, April 22, 9 am in the parking lot of the Columbia Heights Public Library, 3939 Central Ave. NE.
