Meet Saturday, April 20, 9 am, Columbia Heights Public Library, 3939 Central Ave. NE. Gather at the library to pick up safety vests and garbage bags and get street/park assignments. (Park assignments are made for families with young children who participate.) Spark-Y: “The Art of Youth Empowerment”
Visit Spark-Y during Art-A-Whirl and explore the intersections of art, sustainability and entrepreneurship with an open house - and spring plant sale - featuring youth made art. Purchase hanging floral baskets and Victory Garden kits - variety seed packets that include tomato, cucumber, marigold, cilantro, spring onion and jalapeno - to support Spark-Y’s many activities, $40 each. MEA: jewelry making
In this two-day class, students will make of variety of different kinds of jewelry, including beads and jewelry boxes made from air dry clay and origami paper to Shrinky Dink earrings, pendants and keychains. Other fun ideas include wire-wrapped rings, friendship bracelets, paper rings and button making. Ages 7-14. Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 16 and 17, 1-3 pm. Truck or Treat returns for its seventh year on Saturday, Oct. 26, 1-4 pm, at Huset Park, 3965 Jefferson St. NE. Columbia Heights and its City departments will collaborate with community partners to help make the event possible. Each vehicle station will hand out candy to middle school and younger kids. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume. Pets, too. Magnifi Financial is this year's sponsor.
