Days for Girls Sew-a-thon
The Minneapolis City of Lakes Rotary Club will host a Days for Girls Sew-a-thon at Northeast United Methodist Church, 2510 Cleveland St. NE, Saturday, Feb. 1, 9-11 am. The volunteers will be making feminine hygiene kits for girls in developing countries. The completed kits will be distributed by various volunteer organizations to girls in developing countries so they can continue to stay in school and have choices in their lives. Learn about the impacts of salt on the Mississippi River and the surrounding watershed at the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, Saturday, Feb. 1, 10 am-12 pm. Artists Kimberly Boustead and Annie Hejny will lead an art-making activity centered around the interaction of salt and water, and MWMO staff member Abby Moore will share information about salt pollution in the river and best practices to prevent it. SnowBLAST returns on Saturday, Feb. 1, 4-7 pm at Huset Park, 3965 Jefferson St. NE. Live music from Columbia Heights band Pickle. HeightsNEXT will have a free s’mores station, Community Grounds will have free hot cocoa, the Columbia Heights Athletic Boosters will have soup for sale, and the Columbia Heights Lions Club will sell alcoholic drinks.
