A large plume of black smoke behind the Minnesota Firefighters Museum brought a dozen firefighters to battle a blaze at an encampment nestled between the Edison playing field and the rail lines south of 22nd Ave. NE on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Officers from the 2nd Precinct reported finding a body at the scene. The remains were sent to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office for identification. Three large trees were brought down by chainsaws after the flames died out. The fallen branches draped over the chain link fence on the field’s west side. Another dozen smaller trees were blackened, and on the scorched ground nearby, only charred bicycle frames and metal shopping carts were left. There was no damage to the Fire Museum or Edison Field.
