On Saturday, Oct. 26, volunteers from the Bottineau Neighborhood Association (BNA) held their 20th annual pumpkin giveaway. The group had 100 pumpkins delivered to the feet of Max Rabitat, sculptor Mary Johnson’s giant rabbit that looms over 22nd Avenue NE, across from the California Building. Within a half-hour, most of the pumpkins had found new homes. Storyteller Zeke McKinney regaled the children seated on the big orange squashes with stories, as parents filled wagons and carts. The pumpkins were donated by the Northeast Kiwanis, with assistance from Mojo Coffee and Walt Sentyrz of Sentyrz Supermarket. A BNA staff member said that the giveaway has been held in a few different locations, but, he said, “This is our favorite spot.”
