They came from across the world, the nation, the state and the neighborhood. For four days – Sept. 29-Oct. 2 – graduates of Edison High School gathered for a once-in-a-lifetime event, the school’s 100th anniversary. The centennial celebration had all the trappings of an old-fashioned Homecoming – a parade, assembly program, dances, a football game (the Columbia Heights Hylanders handed the Tommies a 34-6 loss), a spaghetti dinner, a pancake breakfast and lots of reminiscing. It was a fitting celebration for the first U.S. school named after inventor Thomas Alva Edison.
