Karen Kraco captured (with her camera) four coyotes at Sullivan Lake Park in Columbia Heights at sunset on Saturday, Feb. 11. Coyotes are a part of the urban ecosystem, keeping rabbits, squirrels and other rodents in check. Although coyotes usually avoid humans (as these did), if one approaches or stands it ground, humans should make noise and be “loud and tall,” said Scott Nolan of the Minnesota DNR, quoted in a July 21, 2021 Northeaster story by Karen Kraco, “Coyotes just part of the scene.”
