The City of Minneapolis and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) will host a meeting Wednesday, Jan. 18 to discuss recent developments regarding air pollution in Minneapolis and Northern Metals Recycling.
Northern Metals, the City and the MPCA are close to reaching a settlement. Part of the settlement includes Northern Metals setting aside a sum of money to be used for remedying the effects of the company’s excess air pollution.
The final agreement needs to include details about how to use this funding. Input is needed from Ward 1 and Ward 3 residents on how best to use this part of the settlement.
The Ward 1 and Ward 3 Northern Metals listening session will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Eastside Neighborhood Services, 1700 Second St. NE
Child care will be provided. In order to better accommodate child care needs, call Leslie at 612-673-3544 if you would like child care.
At the meeting, MPCA officials will give a summary regarding the possible settlement and Minneapolis Health Department staff will give a presentation on environmental public health concerns in the area.
