Red Hot Love Cast Metal Sculpture for Valentine’s Day
Create, learn and have fun with your Valentine through the transformative process of cast metal sculpture. Sara Hanson is offering a class for couples at her studio The Metal Shoppe, 2919 Como Ave. SE, on Saturday, Feb. 11, 1-4:30 p.m. Design and sculpt a cast metal sculpture for your Valentine while they create theirs for you. Together you will learn how to carve into sand molds, pour metal and clean up your artwork. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Wintertide, a Biennial Juried Art Exhibition
Wintertide is a biennial juried exhibition produced by Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA), facilitated by Public Functionary, and graciously supported by the Cedarwoods foundation. Wintertide was created to highlight NEMAA member artists’ high level of professional artistic capability. In addition to selecting the artists in the Biennial, the jurors will award a total of $12,500 in cash prizes that will be presented at the opening reception. Vote for your favorite for “Audience Choice,” announced at the closing reception.
The exhibit will take place at the Public Functionary, 1400 12 Ave. NE. “Forty Years” works created by Aldo Moroni
Northeast Minneapolis resident, Aldo Moroni is celebrating his 40th year as a professional fine artist by presenting a collection of 40 works of art. The exhibit will include ceramic wall sculptures that light up, a collection of free standing ceramic garden sculptures, and a very large ten foot long, four foot tall ceramic mountain scape populated with hundreds of small scale buildings. This work will be under construction throughout the show run. The mountain scape is titled, “The Wrath of Vanity.” Moroni will be on site between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday as he creates this massive work. The opening reception will be Wednesday, Jan. 25, 4-9 p.m. at the ChinDian Cafe, 1500 East Hennepin Ave. There will be courtesy appetizers and a cash bar. The exhibit will run from Wednesday, Jan. 25-Wednesday, Feb. 15. Monday-Thursday: 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and 4:30-8 p.m.; Friday: 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and 4:30-9 p.m.; Saturday: 5-9 p.m.; and Sunday: Closed.
Moroni will also have a one hour discussion with images of his 40 year experience in the art world, Wednesday, Feb. 8 from 2-3 p.m. And on Tuesday, Feb. 14 he will be hosting a Valentines singles night party (couples welcome too) from 5-9 p.m. Dinner reservations, call 612-676-1818. Zoetic-Our Cumulative Legacy Exhibit
The Women’s Art Resource of Minnesota (WARM) invites you to join them at the Robbin Gallery in Robbinsdale, MN for their newest exhibit, Zoetic: Our cumulative Legacy. The artists involved in this project were asked to respond to the last election. The exhibit runs from Jan. 5–28 at the Robbin Gallery, 4915 42nd Ave. North, Robbinsdale. Robbin Gallery hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. An artist reception will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, 5:30-8:30 p.m. In addition to the exhibit, on Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m., a panel of community leaders will be at the Robbin Gallery for a discussion titled “The Trump Trigger” about the political climate and how artists can come together to make a difference. Worlding, An Exhibition
Kolman & Pryor Gallery’s first exhibition of 2017 is “Worlding,” a bold foray into alternative realities that compels those to experience identity and culture, landscape and consumerism; and popular culture and technology with fresh eyes. Co-curated by gallery co-owner and curator, Patrick K. Pryor, and gallery artist, Kate Casanova, “Worlding,” brings together six artists working in diverse media who create work informed by their culturally specific perspectives: Preston Drum, Andy Ducett, Andrea Carlson, Nicole Gordon, Sarah Faye McPherson and Lamar Peterson. The exhibition opens Thursday, Jan. 5 and closes Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017.
