The 2019 SweetArt Salon will exhibit 60-plus artists in Gallery 332 of the Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE.
The Best of the Rest: A Delicious History of the SweetArt Salon: Exceptional Works of Art are submitted to Exceptional Shows. And sometimes, the works are not accepted. The Salon de Paris was such an exhibition. Sponsored by the government of France and the Académie des Beaux-Arts, acceptance into the show virtually assured a successful art career. In 1863, things changed. Only one third of the art was accepted into the Salon. A group of rejected artists and their frustrated friends began a protest. Word of the complaints reached Emperor Napoleon III, who progressively decreed that the public would decide the fate of the rejected art. The tradition of the Salon des Refusés was born. Now, SweetArt Salon puts a Twin Cities spin on it.
