Northeast Minneapolis Arts District, Studio Pintura Workshops
Studio Pintura, 1500 Jackson St. NE #294, announced their Fall Professional Artist Workshop Series for 2018. One of the classes is a Sculpture Series Intro class, taught by James Shoop. The class will be held Thursday, August 23, 6:30-8:30 pm. The $25 fee can be applied as credit to either Shoop workshop. Learn more about their fall sculpture classes with nationally known master sculptor James Shoop. Also, prepare a panel after the presentation if you are signed up for the Bas Relief Figure Workshop for figurative students, sculptors, figure, and portrait painters.
Some of the other classes that were announced are Sculpting the Figure in Bas Relief: an opportunity to sculpt a bas-relief figure from the model. Sculpture Mold Making and Casting: You will be guided through the process of capturing the shape and details of a sculpture with a rubber mold, and then casting the sculpture in Plaster. Portrait Painting, The Art of the Start/Portrait Intensive: The instructor will demonstrate how he starts a portrait from life in oil, then guide the participants through the process of painting a series of three-hour portrait starts. Panels & Still Life Painting, Panel Preparation 101: everything you wanted to know about panels, grounds, and prep. Still Life Painting on Panel, The Kapsner Method: Charles Kapsner was a student of Nerena Simi (1897-1987) in Florence, and has a unique and thoughtful approach to painting to bring to Minnesota artists.

SMART for Business: Bringing Excitement to Your Brand
Hosted by the Minneapolis Regional Chamber, Thursday, Aug. 9, 3:30-6 pm. Elsie’s Restaurant, Bar & Bowling, 729 Marshall St. NE. Marketing, the act of connecting your product and services with customers, is a rapidly changing and always evolving discipline. Whether using digital platforms to build influence or re-imagining traditional marketing methods, how you market your business can be a huge determinant of success. Panelists will discuss methods they have used to market their businesses and share what has worked for them. The program will be followed by a happy hour. Workshops to train “Compost Captains”
Minneapolis Climate Action (MCA), the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County are working together to increase organics recycling (green cart curbside composting) in Northeast. MCA will host a series of local workshops to train “Compost Captains” in what can and can’t go in the green carts, how composting and recycling can combat climate change, the myths around composting and how to sign up friends and neighbors. The compost captain who signs up the most people to participate in the program will receive an Apple iPad (valued at $353), the captain who signs up the second highest number of participants will receive a $100 gift card and the third highest recruiter will receive a $50 gift card.
Residents who sign up for the program will receive a free countertop compost pail and compostable bags. The first twop compost captain trainings will be: Saturday, July 28, 9:30 am, Northeast Library, 2200 Central Ave. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 6:30 pm, Able Brewing, 1121 Quincy St.

Tai Ji Quan: Moving For Better Balance: Mondays and Thursdays through July 30, 9:30-10:30 am. This Tai Chi class reduces risk of falls by improving balance, muscle strength, flexibility, and mobility through mindful movements in a slow, flowing motion. The class meets twice a week on Mondays and Thursday mornings for 12 weeks.
Living Well with Chronic Pain: Thursdays, June 14-July 19, 1-3:30 pm. Living Well with Chronic Pain is a new evidence-based, six-week group workshop designed to help you live a healthy life with your chronic pain by managing symptoms. Workshops are interactive and offer practical tips and guidelines on a variety of health and wellness topics. Participants set goals and make personalized plans to improve their health. Friendship Too: A Caregiver/Loved One Support Group: Tuesdays, June 19 and July 10, 3-4:30 pm. East Side Neighborhood Services is hosting a Caregiver Support Group at Adult Day at Friendship Center, 1717 2nd St. NE (across the street from ESNS) for anyone serving as a Care Partner for a loved one. The Care Receiver is invited to participate in the Adult Day program while their Care Partner attends the 90 minute support group. Yogadevotion at St. Matthew Lutheran Church
Yogadevotion is being held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 4101 Washington St. NE, Thursdays, 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Nov. 10-Dec. 22, no class Nov. 24. Cost is $48. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Salem Covenant Church Yogadevotion Class
Sign up for a five-week level one yoga class at Salem Covenant Church, 2655 5th St. NW, New Brighton, on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. The class starts on Nov. 15 and the five class series is $40. The classes begin with a devotion on the scripture written by pastor Cindy Senarighi, ordained in the ELCA. The body of the class is a combination of standing, balance and floor poses. The classes close with a benediction and prayer. No previous yoga experience is required and modifications are offered for all poses. Bring your yoga mat.
