The Rose Ensemble presents “A Renaissance Requiem:” Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Mass for the Departed, 1605 in select venues in St. Paul, Minneapolis, and La Crosse Nov. 4-6. One of the greatest composers of the 16th century, Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611) composed his Requiem Mass for the funeral of the Dowager Empress María, widow of Holy Roman emperor Maximilian II, sister of Spain’s King Philip II, and the composer’s longtime patroness. These performances mark the second time The Rose Ensemble has performed Victoria’s Requiem in concert, the first time having been the inaugural concert of the newly formed group 20 years ago. The Requiem will be interspersed with traditional Gregorian chants and a Psalm setting. The performance will feature twelve singers and each performance will also include a pre-concert talk with the Founder and Artistic Director, Jordan Sramek, 65 minutes before the concert.
Tickets are available online at www.RoseEnsemble.org, by phone 651-225-4340, and at the door the night of each performance. The performance date for Minneapolis is Saturday, Nov. 5, 8 p.m. (pre-concert talk at 6:55 p.m.) at the Church of the Holy Cross, 1621 University Ave. NE. $38, $28, and $15 for adults, $10 for students with an ID and children (0-12) are free.
