Eighth annual Waite Park Pushcart Derby
The eighth annual Waite Park Pushcart Derby will be taking place Saturday, Sept. 10 at Waite Park, 1810 34th Ave. NE. Teams from all over Northeast Minneapolis will have a chance to take home the title of “Pushcart Champion” as well as a total of $400 in prize money. Stick around after the derby for food, music and games for the kids, including a bouncy castle. On the day of the race, check-in begins at 11 a.m. and the preliminary races begin at noon. Twin Cities Polish Festival
The Twin Cities Polish Festival returns along the Mississippi River, 43 Main Street SE, for three days. Friday, Aug. 12, 5-10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. This family friendly festival is free for all ages. There will be Polish food and beverages, cultural exhibits, arts and crafts, traditional folk dancing, Chopin Celebration Concerts and a Polish Filmfest. There will also be white Polish Tatra sheepdogs and a children’s play area. Two variety bands kick off the festival on Friday night, Riverside Hitmen and Riverside Swing Band. Saturday features local bands DyVersaCo and Doctor Kielbasa and two Michigan bands, DynaBrass and Box On. A polka dance contest will also be held on Saturday afternoon. Chef Gerson will be collaborating with Chef Luke Kyle of The Draft Horse for a six-course dinner paired with some of Brooklyn Brewery’s most intriguing beers. $100 per person (includes gratuity and tax). Meet me at the River presents, #WhatLivesMatter? A cross-cultural concert and conversation on the intersection of policing and race.
