Open enrollment for Medicare begins Oct. 15, and an Oct. 8 offering in Northeast Minneapolis will provide helpful information in advance. Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging (MAAA), East Side Neighborhood Services, and Northeast Senior Services, Inc. will host free presentations on Medicare on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at East Side Neighborhood Services, 1700 Second Street NE. MAAA’s state-certified Senior LinkAge Line® health insurance counselors will explain what Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D cover; who is eligible for Medicare; when and how to enroll in Medicare; what the donut hole is and what extra help is available to lower prescription drug costs; and how the Senior LinkAge Line® can help answer Medicare questions. Attendees will walk away with helpful information and a resource to turn to for help. Medicare Open Enrollment (Oct. 15-Dec. 7) is a time for current Medicare beneficiaries to review their prescription drug costs and make changes for 2017, if necessary. As part of the presentations, attendees can also sign up for a one-hour health insurance counseling appointment to get answers to their specific Medicare questions. Counseling is also available over the phone by calling the Senior LinkAge Line® at 1-800-333-2433 or at one of more than 41 health insurance counseling sites across the seven county metropolitan area.
