A fun run along the banks of the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis is a family-friendly alternative to brunch this Mother’s Day. Root Beer Run 2019 features a one-mile or 1/2-mile run, walk or stroll around Boom Island Park, 724 Sibley St. NE, with all participants receiving a root beer float at the finish line. The dog-friendly event, now in its third year, will offer a wide variety of activities, including lawn games, a photo booth, arts and crafts, temporary tattoos and an inflatable jump house. There will also be a sunscreen station and food trucks from local vendors.
Root Beer Run 2019 starts at 1 pm, Sunday, May 12, with registration and check-in beginning at noon. The entry fee is $10 per runner, with all proceeds going directly to People for Parks. The nonprofit organization advances under-supported projects and programs in Minneapolis Parks, serving as the catalyst for connecting community-driven ideas and funding that nurture stewardship, community and enjoyment of the city’s public parks.
