Target and national non-profit KaBOOM! awarded Washburn Center for Children a $15,930 grant to purchase an Imagination Playground in a Cart™, an innovative playground equipment system. The portable play equipment will be unveiled at “The Washburn Games,” a day designed to highlight the importance of children’s physical and mental wellness. More than 500 kids, ages 4-12 and their families, play 15 athletic activities, including baseball, yoga, soccer and lacrosse along with the new Imagination Playground in a noncompetitive environment, all to raise money and support to their peers struggling with depression, anxiety, loss or trauma. Local experts from the Minnesota Cricket Association, InnerCity Tennis, Tony Sanneh Foundation, and National Karate are attending to teach basic sports skills. The seventh annual Washburn Games are on Sunday, Sept. 25, 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. with the closing ceremonies and prize giveaways starting at 4 p.m. at Bryn Mawr Meadows Park located at 601 Morgan Ave S, Minneapolis.
