Help Spark-Y celebrate the launch of their new headquarters in Northeast Minneapolis with their 8th annual graduating class of Spark-Y interns on Thursday, Aug. 9, 5-7:30 pm. There will be a keynote address from Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, project presentations from their interns showcasing Spark-Y youth programming in action, food and drink from Eastside Co-op and Butter Bakery, featuring a brand new location at the Casket Arts Building. The event will take place in their new location in the Casket Arts Building, 681 17th Ave. NE, Suite 101. Their staff and team of interns have been working hard, carving timbers for their sustainable systems at the new space.
Spark-Y is excited to be joining many of their school program partners in Northeast Minneapolis, including Edison High School, Northeast Middle School, Pillsbury Elementary and more. Just up the street, you can find their 2016 internship project: a timber-frame pavilion in Beltrami Park. Their new space will include staff workspace and meeting areas, a microgreen farm, and biology innovation lab.
Spark-Y refers to their internship as “sustainability bootcamp,” where youth are placed in teams and given a real-world project to complete on deadline with environmental and financial outcomes. 2018 interns will share their projects through interactive presentations. This year’s projects include garden installations, youth-led workshops, an aquaponics system build, and a timber frame farm build at their new headquarters at Casket Arts.
